Marmite and the BNP...an unhappy tale of love and hate
Recently, I published a blog on Marmite and their spoof election. Since then, there have been some public relations developments and disasters, so here is my video discussing them!
A good summary of the Marmite story! In my opinion the it does not damage the reputation as the campaign target only those who already know the product and for those who love it the reception of the message does not change even if the “hate party” gets more attention due to their aggressive attitude. So for Marmite it is a win-win situation as consumers cannot be persuaded by a campaign but only by their taste. Thus this campaign tries only to raise attention on the product!
Great video and good questions at the end! I enjoyed watching that... in my view I learned a great deal more about this story which I was not too familiar about on the other side of the pond :) One thing that is highlighted for me is a 'dumbing down' of messaging to the public and the creating of mutually exclusive thinking such as: 'if you hate this, then that.' In life, most matters reside in the grey area and I hate to think that PR professionals draft campaigns like this but they do!
